Meet Alex Li
Hi Everyone, I’m Alex! Thank you so much for stopping by my site. I’d like to share with you a little about myself and the work that I do.
I am a Miami-based vinyasa, restorative, and therapeutic yoga therapist/teacher. Although based out of Miami, I have been fortunate enough to attend yoga trainings all over the United States from Yogaville in Virginia, to a hidden Ashram in Austin Texas, to a Mission in sunny Oceanside California. With these trainings, I have acquired my E-RYT 200HR, my E-RYT 500HR and the certification which I hold most dear to my heart, my C-IAYT (which is 800HR in Yoga Therapy.)
I also have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a focus in spirituality and the mind/body connection from Columbia University as well as my personal training certification with The National Academy of Sports Medicine.
When working with my clients, I combine all these diverse layers of education and training and work on empowering my clients from a holistic perspective. I specialize in functional and intuitive movement and most often, work with clients in relation to joint health and cancer recovery. In addition to offering one-on-one yoga therapy sessions, I also lead group classes, workshops, special series, and do events all around Miami, Fl.
If what I do interests you, please continue exploring my site to learn more about yoga therapy, the services that I offer, and where/when I teach.
Namaste,
Alex

About Yoga Therapy
“What is yoga therapy?" and “How does it differ from a yoga class?” These are two questions that I get asked all the time and they both are extremely valid and equally important.
IAYT (The International Association of Yoga Therapists) describe yoga therapy as such: “Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of Yoga.”

So you may still be wondering “Ok, but how is that different from what a yoga teacher does in their classes?” And you’re right! Yoga teachers absolutely do this, but trained yoga therapist are able to take it a step further.

The practices of yoga are inherently therapeutic in their own right. However, yoga therapy is the specific application of these therapeutic tools- such as asana (postures/exercises), pranayama (breath work), and meditation/mindfulness techniques. A skilled yoga therapist will use these tools to assess and treat their client as a whole- looking at their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

In a yoga class, there is little time for one-on-one attention between student and teacher. This may be due to the fact that the classes are only allotted a certain amount of time or because there are too many students and the teacher is simply not able to interact with everyone, or maybe a combination.
However, in a yoga therapy session, the yoga therapist and client will work together to build a custom yoga therapy treatment plan that not only is interesting and exciting to the client, but also works towards their holistic and personal goals keeping in mind any limitations or aliments they may have.
